Important World Events During the Time of the Battle

Apr 16th - Slavery abolished in District of Columbia

July 1st - The Russian State Library is founded.



July 2nd - U.S. President Abraham Lincoln signs the Morrill Land Grant Act into law, creating land-grant colleges to teach agricultural and mechanical sciences across the United States.


Dec 26th - The largest mass-hanging in U.S. history took place in Mankato, Minnesota, killing 39.

Importance to the Civil War & Why it was fought

Importance!- 
The Battle of Shiloh is thought to be the turning point of the war. The confederates and union lost so many soldiers, they figured out this war would not end soon.


Why was it fought?-
The confederates thought that they could get ahead in the war, by surprise attacking the Union.
